Australian STEM Video Game Challenge: Q & A

Posted on June 25, 2015

I’ve posted recently about the fantastic opportunity for kids to learn to make games and win prizes, so I’m very excited to be asked a few deeper questions but the Interactive Games & Entertainment Association about the Challenge and why I think it is so important for learning. To make it easier I gave the answers in a quick video.

For reference, the questions were:

1. What is the purpose of the Australian STEM Video Game Challenge from the gaming and game design perspective?
2. Why does Australia have a problem with student interest in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM)?
3. How does the Challenge support efforts to stimulate and maintain students’ interest in STEM?
4. Is game design all about STEM or does it bring together students with other skills?
5. What prompted you to become involved with the Challenge?
6. What does the research indicate about the impact of game-based learning (with examples if possible)?
7. How can the Challenge help students during their schooling and in pursuing STEM-based careers?
Check out the video for some answers!
